Wall Thickness & Schedule Selection

Elbow walls follow the pipe schedule: SCH10 for utility and jacketed service, SCH40/STD as the process default, SCH80/XS where pressure or corrosion allowance demands, SCH160/XXS for severe service. Material Grades Explained

A234 WPB – the standard carbon steel elbow grade for water, oil, steam and air to about 425°C. A420 WPL6 – low-temperature carbon steel for service to -46°C. A403 WP304/304L – general stainless; WP316/316L adds molybdenum for chloride resistance. Alloy WP11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) and WP22 (2.25Cr-1Mo) serve high-temperature steam above 500°C. Match the fitting grade to the pipe grade – weldability and strength must agree.
